Weekly Update: Screens Down, Life Up

Different stages of a butterfly cocoon ending with a newly hatched monarch butterfly

We’ve officially wrapped up Week Four of this screen time reduction journey, and guess what? We’re cruising right along. This week, I cut my screen time by another 25%. If you haven’t started your own journey yet, consider this your neon sign. Head over to this post to get in on the action!

My average screen time this week was a breezy 2 hours and 8 minutes a day. At this rate, I’ll be clocking in under an hour in just three weeks.Watch out world, I’m about to become unstoppable.
So, what did I do with all that glorious free time? Let’s dive in:

Mind Games
This week, I started tracking every time I had the itch to pick up my phone — like some kind of digital anthropologist. Turns out, boredom and finishing hard tasks were my two biggest triggers.
I also gave myself two challenges:

  1. YouTube was only allowed for educational deep dives.

  2. Any unconscious phone grab? Put it back down immediately and log it.

Result? I didn’t even open YouTube this week — a heroic leap from last week’s 5.5-hour binge-fest.

Sunday
It was Easter, and I started my day with an 8AM Pilates class. (Yes, I am insane. No, I do not regret it.) Afterward, Goose and I headed to my parents’ house for a day filled with family, food, and enough chocolate to fill Willy Wonka’s chocolate river.

Monday
I walked my sweet, chill Rover dog (a 7-year-old Shih Tzu who was the polar opposite of my 40lb chaos gremlin at home).
Later, I joined my boyfriend’s coworkers for a cooking class where we whipped up chicken shawarma and possibly the world’s best baklava. A+ Monday, honestly.

Tuesday
Date night! I made a mango avocado salad bowl that was pure sorcery. (I was suspicious of mango and cilantro being friends, but it turns out they’re a power couple.)

Wednesday
More Pilates after work. It was "ab day," which I naively assumed would be chill because of the 8:30PM timeslot.
Spoiler: It was not chill. It was the workout equivalent of a personal attack. (Still sore three days later.)

Thursday
Goose had his final training class and graduated! 🎓 Next stop: dog sports foundations class starting in May. Until then, we rest. (Well, sort of.)

Friday
Taco night. Ice cream. New episode of The Last of Us.
No spoilers, but let’s just say my soul wasn’t ready for that ending. (Heavy sigh.)

Saturday
More Pilates — not because I’m obsessed (okay, maybe a little), but because I had to use up my April credits before I start dog-sitting next week. After class, I headed to my parents' house again for some top-tier Chinese food. A worthy end to a great week.

The themes of this week? Lots of social connection, physical activity and self discipline. Ready to get started kicking screen time out of your life? Get started TODAY!
